The deal comes as HAL is emerging from a financial quarter in which, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic and severe disruptions to the company's supply chain and OEM raw materials, the production schedules and the deliveries of the main defense were bad to hit.

It was also announced that the DAC had awarded AoN for various capital acquisition proposals for the modernization and operational needs of the Army, Navy and Air Force worth approximately ₹ 13,165 crore.

In addition to ALHs, the list includes helicopters, guided munitions, and rocket munitions. Of these, acquisitions worth ₹ 11,486 crore (87 percent) will be from domestic sources, Defense Ministry officials announced.

DAC approval for these programs will benefit several Tier 1/2/3 indigenous manufacturing and supply companies, including Alpha Design Technologies, Data Pattern, Samtel, etc., which will produce some of the subsystems for ALH and other programs.
